THE NEUTRON FLUX MONITORING SYSTEM HAS BEEN REPLACED AT UNIT 5 OF ZNPP

The new equipment that monitors reactor operation and provides information to the main control room was installed at Zaporizhzhya NPP at unit 5.

The new neutron flux monitoring system (NFMS) has a wider range of characteristics. These are the advanced diagnosing parameters, the more detailed information and visual values. Besides, the paper archive was replaced by a more detailed one and in an electronic form already.

“The NFMS equipment has already been modernized at units 1, 2, 3, and 5 of the plant, - mentioned the chief foreman of the protection control system area of the thermal instrumentation and control shop of SS ZNPP Aleksandr Balahanov. – In the process of operation, it confirmed the high degree of the operational characteristics declared by the manufacturer”.

The life of the new equipment for neutron flux monitoring - 30 years. It was manufactured by a domestic enterprise based on import component parts. The equipment was replaced within the “Complex consolidated safety upgrade programme for units of Ukraine”.

Unit 5 of Zaporizhzhya NPP is under the scheduled overhaul now.

Reference. Zaporizhzhya NPP is the largest power facility in Ukraine and Europe with the installed capacity 6 000 MW. 6 units with the capacity 1 mln kW each are operated at ZNPP. Power unit 1 was commissioned in 1984, power unit 2 – in 1985, power unit 3 – in 1986, power unit 4 – in 1987, power unit 5 – in 1989, power unit 6 – in 1995. Starting from 1984, the contribution of Zaporizhzhya NPP in the power industry of the country increased from 2 to 22%.
